ACC Subsidised Acupuncture Treatments
Acupuncture Promotes Recovery from Injury
Acupuncture is a complementary therapy commonly used to support pain relief, recovery from injury, and overall wellbeing. When performed by a qualified and experienced practitioner, it is a safe and generally comfortable treatment. Acupuncture can be used alongside other forms of care to support the body’s natural healing processes.
In New Zealand, the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) can subsidise acupuncture treatment for anyone with a valid ACC claim, provided treatment is sought within 12 months of the injury.
Please note: Acupuncturists cannot lodge ACC claims. Claims must be submitted through a GP, physiotherapist, osteopath, or chiropractor before ACC-subsidised acupuncture treatment can begin.
Acupuncture is considered beneficial in both injury-related or gradual process musculoskeletal conditions including:
Neck & Back Pain
Tendinitis & Bursitis
Shoulder Injury
Post Surgery Recovery
Osteo-Arthritic Pain
Cranial Migraine
Sciatica
Carpal Tunnel
Lateral Elbow Injury
Acupuncture also demonstrates value in helping alleviate women’s health issues including premenstrual tension and menopausal symptoms. And also with:
Fertility Support
Acupuncture can be used alongside standard fertility treatments, such as IVF and IUI, to support overall wellbeing. It may help regulate the menstrual cycle and support egg quality, complementing conventional care.
Pregnancy Support
During pregnancy, acupuncture can promote relaxation and help ease symptoms such as morning sickness. It may support healthy blood flow to the uterus, enhance overall wellbeing, and in later stages, help relieve body aches, reduce anxiety, and support digestion.
What can I expect during my Acupuncture Appointment?
Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine, sterile needles into specific points along the body’s meridians. Needles are typically left in place for up to 20 minutes, and treatments may also include gentle application of heat, light, or pressure. Sessions generally last around 45 minutes, during which you remain still, warm, and relaxed. Most people feel little to no sensation, though some may notice a mild tingling or gentle radiating feeling.
